Getting Started

If you’re new to drums playing and serious about pursuing it (and willing to invest a little money), a good basic drum set will be more than sufficient to start with.

The price for a drum set or drum kit may vary greatly depending on several factors (manufacturer, quality of the materials used,etc.); you can find good deals for used quality sets and kits starting at about $300 but as you progress, you will certainly want to add more equipment. As your drumming skills improve, you start to develop your own style and will inevitably want to add more drums and accessories – and at that point the sky is the limit. We always recommend starting small with good quality equipment, rather than buying all possible drums and cymbals right away and eventually coming to the conclusion that it was the wrong investment to make. Besides, buying all drum instruments at once takes away all the fun that comes with slowly upgrading according to your specific skill or acquired technique!
For beginners, we recommend a drum set containing the following elements:

- 1 bass drum (+ pedal)
- 1 snare drum (+ stand)
- 1 tom-tom (+ stand)
- 1 ride cymbal (+ stand)
- 1 hi-hat (+ stand)
- a stool or throne

and, last but not least, do not forget to buy drum sticks.
